Overview

Plants Vs. Zombies 2: Exodus is a fast-paced mod based on the definition of the word “exodus”. In other words, players are challenged to face many zombies at a given moment. Face off against new and reworked zombies with the help of reworked plants and brand-new world gimmicks.

Lore

PvZ2 Exodus brings a strange twist of fate. This time, it’s not about defending your lawn—it’s about dismantling Zomboss’s schemes and breaking his grip on each era. Every era is split into three increasingly difficult sets, with the final set pushing Zomboss to his limits as he fights desperately to avoid his exile to other eras. Along the way, he teams up with powerful allies, from mythical gods to legendary figures, each bringing unique threats and challenges.

The goal? Drive Zomboss out of every timeline, restore order, and end his plan to conquer time and space. Join the fight to restore balance across time and space. Are you ready to lead the Exodus?

World Structure

Each world has 30 levels, divided into three parts. The last level of each part is a Massive Attack level (Gargantuars galore!), with level 30 being the final level of the world, facing off against the one and only, Dr. Zomboss himself.

You get to unlock three plants in each part and are introduced to at least three zombies of the world.

Part I

The first part is your introductory part, wherein things are relatively easier as you warm up to the world and its gimmicks.

Part II

Things start to take an interesting turn in this part. The zombie crowd increases noticeably, forcing players to revise their strategies to emerge victorious.

Part III

This part of any world is where things start going downhill for the player. The number of zombies increases substantially, with more new and dangerous zombies appearing in this zone. Players are recommended to play other worlds and unlock more plants before tackling the challenges offered.

Development Story

Exodus started between two friends (myself and qarq90) and their desire to create their own Plants vs. Zombies 2 mod after playing other popular mods themselves.

Having no experience in modding, we started looking around for tools and tutorials, and fortunately we did find them. Therefore, our journey of making our own mod started (remember, we were still two stupid friends).

April 2024 - When it all Started

Exodus took its first baby steps when we started reading the guides, watching tutorials and simply experimenting with the tools at our disposal to understand how modding PvZ2 works.

We started with defining what was needed in our mod and what wasn't. To explain, we did not need online features and plant levelling in our mod. We created our own seed packets packets, replacing the default ones. Plants that were restricted in certain stages were also liberated of such restrictions.

July 2024 - The Journey Begins

The development kickstarted once we figured out how to create our own levels so as to provide the players with our challenges. This helpful website allowed us to create our own levels.

From July through September, I made the first ten levels of Ancient Egypt while qarq90 designed the map.

October 2024 - Adding the Exodus Flavor

The month of October was when we discovered ELM, a superior tool for designing our levels (as it provided more features and is simply more customizable).

Cleopatra Zombie

Cleopatra zombie

Cleopatra zombie once existed in the original game, but was removed for being "not threatening enough", they said. Not threatening enough? Cleopatra is now a menace in Exodus. Short answer: the longer you keep her alive, the more overwhelming she becomes. I will not spoil the details here so I recommend you check her out in the mod.
